Level 1 A/B Clinic Format and Tentative Schedule

Day One


8:30 am   Introduction to EponaShoe

Basics of EponaShoe and the Epona System.  Sizes and styles of Eponashoe, fine points on nailing the Eponashoe, packing, glueing.  Regulating frog and sole support. Biomechanics of  breakover and toe bevel.  Introduction to the Epona 3D trim: a three dimensional approach which uses landmarks of the bony column.


10:15 am  Shoeing demonstration with EponaShoe

                 * Level A students observe

                 * Level B students begin hands on trimming and shoeing

 

12:30 pm  Lunch break  


1:30 pm    Case Studies: Success with EponaShoe. 

Presentation of many before/after case studies showing results achieved with the Epona system.


4:00 pm    The Metron System.

Why measure the hoof?   How to get good images of the hoof.   Importance of, and methods for, calibration.  Key measurements of the hoof.


5:30 pm     Adjourn

 

 

Day Two

 

8:30 am   Brief Q&A Session


8:45 am  Hands-On trimming and shoeing.  Split into two groups:

A)    Those already using EponaShoe

B)     Those new to Glueing/Nailing

 

12:30 pm  Lunch break

 

1:30 pm    Hands-On trimming and shoeing (continued)


6:30 pm     Adjourn

 


Day Three

 

8:30 am   Brief Q&A Session


9:00 am   Hoof Anatomy and Related Topics.
 
Weight bearing function of the sole, understanding sole shapes as they relate to the bone stance. Dissection slides.

 

12:30 pm  Lunch  


1:30 pm    Preview of Advanced Topics.  

Additional topics from biomechanics, our research into pedal bone morphometrics, advanced topics in evolution and biomaterials, etc.


2:30 pm     Integrating Radiographs into Farrierry.   Review of  terminology.  Things to look for in radiographs.  Comparison of film, CR, and DR images.  How to ask for radiographs appropriate for biomechanical evaluation.

 

 

3:30 pm    Wrap-Up

                 * Level A students receive a “Certificate of Attendance”. 

                 * Level B students take written test to receive the Level One certification.

 

4:00 pm    Adjourn
